Some Comments from Past Seasons:

Mr. Savard,

We are a small group of four who had the pleasure of joining a half-day sea kayaking excursion in Saint-Irénée this past Sunday morning. Despite the strong winds that really put our muscles to the test, we were all absolutely delighted by the outing and will keep fond memories of our time on the water.

Our congratulations on your facilities and equipment—but above all, on your guides. Jean and Rémi played a key role in the success of our excursion, which unfolded safely, with a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere. THANK YOU AGAIN, GUYS!!

See you soon,

François Jean, Janik Lachance, Raymond Dubé, Caroline Jean

Hello,

I’m writing in regard to the excursion my mother and I took on July 11 on the Malbaie River. It was both fascinating and captivating, from the breathtaking scenery to learning about the sport itself. It was especially interesting to discover the subtleties of paddling techniques, and to learn about the geological, astronomical, social, and cultural history of the Hautes-Gorges region—not to mention the log driving industry, which once played such an important role there.

We also greatly appreciated all the thoughtful details that made the experience so enjoyable. For instance: the lunch was balanced and very good—in fact, I’d even say delicious. And we were lucky enough to enjoy it while staying dry, thanks to our guide Jean who had brought a tarp for shelter during an absolutely wild thunderstorm. Jean also took the time to snap some photos of us, and they turned out beautifully.

In short, we would do it again in a heartbeat—and who knows, maybe for more than one day next time.

Thank you,

Annie and Huguette

Hello,

As I sip my coffee this morning, I’m finally getting around to sharing my thoughts on the expedition, as you asked us to do upon our return last Friday.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the river. It’s a body of water that seems quite unpredictable, but thanks to the guidance of Jean (and Maude), it turned into a truly enriching experience. I appreciated the proactive mindset—such as preparing for potential capsizes (which turned out to be quite necessary!), and the wise suggestion to stop at Port-au-Persil after an eventful morning and dwindling energy levels. I felt completely safe despite the challenging weather conditions, and even after capsizing twice, I would do it again without hesitation. Becoming more comfortable in a kayak is one of my personal goals—and going into the water is just part of the process. I really appreciated having the opportunity to talk with Jean afterward about what happened and how to handle similar situations in the future.

Jean also took the time to explain the factors he considers (wind, tides, currents, etc.) when making decisions, which gave me valuable insight into navigating the St. Lawrence. I did find the first day (St-Irénée to Cap-à-l’Aigle) a bit short, but it did allow us to take in the scenery peacefully. I think that considering the potential for surprises and the time needed to set up camp, the distances were actually well-calculated—they allowed us to enjoy the experience without being completely exhausted at the end of the day.

The campsite was beautiful, and the cabin was convenient! The meals were both high-quality and thoughtfully prepared—with Maude’s touch, we had plate presentations worthy of a restaurant, quite a feat for an expedition! We were far from the Kraft Dinner I remember eating on trips in my youth! You could advertise yourselves as “kayaking for foodies”.

The quality of the interpretation regarding Charlevoix’s history, geology, economy, and so on, greatly enriched the journey. It was truly a pleasure to be guided by someone who appreciates the region enough to make it their home.

All in all, I spent some wonderful days both on the water and on land—I’ll be recommending the experience to all my kayaking friends!
